Participant drawing: “This thing is red” - Catalina Tuca
ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION
Audiovisual group exercise based on the processes of perception and interpretation, and the inherited barrier within it. It invites us to reflect on the ways we perceive, communicate and relate to each other and the world around us.
PROCESS
Sitting around a table, one participant chooses an object, which is hidden to the rest of the participants. He/she will observe and touch the object, to then orally describe it to the group. The group will hear the description, interpret it and
represent it via either drawing, painting, clay modeling, digital modeling.
Taking turns, each participant will do the same; secretly observe and describe the object, while the others represent it.
Everybody describes and everybody represents, not knowing that the object is always the same. Through this process, the real object transforms into infinite new ones through the variations in personal perception, use of language (description), and representational approaches.
