Catalina Tuca - student explorations
ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION
Audiovisual project based on the reflection and expression of a personal
experience and its associated emotions.
PROCESS:
A.Reflection and association:
Students are invited to think on a personal experience and the feelings/ emotions/ sensations associated with it. Through guided questions posed by the instructor, the participants will give those feelings formal characteristics such as: color, texture, transparency, consistency and moving pace. They will then be invited to associate those characteristics with an existing material or a combination of materials in liquid or semi liquid form, such as paint, ink, glue, cream, honey, milk, mud, etc.. These materials, their physical characteristics and the way they move
-because of its liquid properties- should have the ability to evoke those
emotions or sensations.
B.Video documentation:
Students will place the materials in containers and manipulate them while documenting these movements in video.
C.Audio documentation:
The audio will come from the oral narration of the personal experience. These narratives can be more or less detailed, can speak about the feeling itself, as well as the event that provoked that emotion. These recorded voice narrations will be edited and added to the final video piece.
D.Video-Audio Editing:
Video and audio will be edited to create the final piece, applying basic editing methods and tools such as: cutting, juxtaposing, manipulating speed, rhythm, pacing, volume, sound and color correction. The editing tools will allow the student to either show or hide their personal narration, to control the amount of information they want to give to the audiences as well as to connect and unify the several formal elements such as visuals and audio into an expressive whole.
